Book Week 2017

OK, Book Week is one of those events during the school year that you feel like you have all the time in the world to plan for, but then all of a sudden, the book week parade is here and you have no clue at all what the kids, in my case two school kids, will dress up as.

This year's theme was "Escape to Everywhere" which seemed like an easy task. First Lily mentioned she wanted to dress up as Red Riding Hood  - but no outfit at home and by the time I thought I'd get a bit organised, it was too late to order an outfit from eBay. So, Lily said she wanted to dress up as a cowgirl - like Jessie in Toy Story, but then completely different still.

With Jonah, it was a different story. He didn't want to get dressed up at all. Period. We tried and gave him some ideas... Greg Heffley in Wimpy Kid for example. No. The answer was no and Jonah didn't dress up at all. Ah well, as long as he was happy with his choice!

Got to love Book Week... ☺
Better start planning for next year's costumes now!

Instant outdoor laundry

Got to love a back up washing machine!

As a wife and a mum of school kids, I do a lot of laundry - especially on weekends... school uniforms, hubby's work uniforms and everything else I haven't been able to wash during the week. I do a lot of laundry during the week too, so the washing machine is part of my family!

So, last Saturday morning (yesterday, that is) I washed a load during the night and by the morning, I noticed that the washing was slightly more damp and I thought I'd just do a second spin cycle and then hang it out... Ha! The motor was dead. We purchased this machine in 2013 after our first washing machine died after 10 years of frequent use.

Luckily, I had a second washing machine out in the shed. I brought out this top loader from Sweden over 15 years ago and hubby installed it outside in between our sink and potting table - an instant outdoor laundry! I've always wanted a second laundry, so I'm in a happy place doing the laundry in the sunshine... while waiting to get my other machine fixed.

Hope you all have had a relaxing weekend and that you are ready for the new week ♥

Junior Sports Day 2017

Yesterday was the school's Junior Sports Day. This was the last year for Lily to be a junior, next year she'll join big brother Jonah and the rest of the seniors. Jonah will be in Year 6 and Lily in Year 3. Holy moly, where has the time gone??

We had absolutely amazing weather. It was sunny and the sky was so fabulously blue - no clouds what so ever. According to the weather man this morning it was going to be 27°C/81°F, but during the day it started to feel much, much warmer - not bad for a Winter's day, hey?!

♥ Selfie with my girl ♥

Well done to Lily for coming 3rd in her race.
The Junior Sport's Day is not about winning,
but about participation and having fun!

Traffic chaos... and our Crystal Wedding Anniversary!

Before I post about Hubby's and my Wedding Anniversary that happened weeks ago, I have to tell you about yesterday's traffic disaster. At 0840am, a truck containing 15000 litres of hydrochloric acid caught on fire and exploded, causing serious traffic delays as all highway traffic had to be diverted to local streets. It was declared an emergency situation due to the severity of the fire/explosion/fumes.

It took me close to 2 hours getting home from our bus station. I'm talking about a trip that normally takes 8 minutes by bus! We had to take a different route, with the rest of the diverted travellers who were supposed to be heading south on the highway. Now we shared a local street instead. Slow and steady...

I figured the traffic was going to continue to be delayed, so I decided to start travelling an hour early to get the kids from school, which meant I only had 10 minutes at home before heading out again. Luckily I did, first of all, my bus was over 15 minutes late and then it took us 30 minutes to travel to our bus station - instead of 8 minutes! I did get to school on time... phew ☺

In the late afternoon, travelling home from school, the traffic was still at a stand still - everywhere! The highway was not moving... The kids and I got on the school bus and it took us 2,5 hours to zig zag through three suburbs. Normally it's a smooth sailing with occasional traffic jams (Friday traffic) and it would take us 15-20 minutes on the highway, from Eight Mile Plains to our bus station where we jump on a bus home. Now we had to crawl through the streets of Springwood, Daisy Hill and Shailer Park to our final destination, The Hyperdome Station. All the roads and streets were like car parks. It was exhausting and draining to be on the buses for that amount of time. Luckily I had nice bus drivers to talk to!

Ok, enough about yesterday... I'm feeling drained just thinking about traffic jams, diverted traffic and traffic delays. Hope I never get to experience another day like yesterday.

Anyway,

A couple of weeks ago, Hubby and I celebrated our Crystal Wedding Anniversary - 15 years of marriage!

Hubby came home with a box of Lindt chocolate and afterwards we went out for pizza at our favourite pizza place, Mosaic Pizza. Of course we had the kids with us - they are part of the package!

Hope you all have a nice and relaxing weekend!
♥ Thank you for stopping by ♥
