Christmas Eve 2017

Christmas Eve breakfast
Traditional rice porridge/pudding with cinnamon sugar and milk.

This is the exact dish we place outside in the snow
for our Tomte (Swedish Santa) instead of milk and cookies...

On Christmas Eve we lit the fourth candle.
Happy 4th of Advent!

Christmas Eve Buffet - A Swedish Christmas feast!

Christmas ham, pickled herring, cured salmon (gravlax/gravlox) meatballs, beetroot salad, jellied veal, egg halves with aioli and roe and wort bread - all made by yours truly!

End of the school year!

Last Thursday was the last official day of the school year and there were break up parties all around the school. I dropped by both kids' classrooms to join in the festivities.

I started out in Jonah's class - 5M

The students had made Merry Christmas buntings
and decorated the classroom. It looked very nice and Christmassy!

Jonah and his teacher Mr McK
Gotta love a teacher who isn't afraid to wear reindeer antlers!

the school year's last big job.

...and then I went to Lily's class 2D

Party in full swing when I arrived!

Bon Voyage!

After about six weeks here in kangaroo country,
it was time for mum to fly back to Sweden last night
so we said Au Revoir at Brisbane International Airport.

Merry Christmas

First of Advent... Broadbeach Markets and Swedish Church

Before Mum travelled back home to Sweden,
we spent a few hours at the Broadbeach Markets.

The markets are only a short walk from the beach.

After being at the markets,
we went to the Swedish Church in Brisbane.

First of Advent and an early Lucia Celebration.

It was hot and humid outside, but inside the church
you could really feel the Christmas spirit
thanks to the students from the Swedish Saturday School.

Christmas Carols 2017 Cancelled

Each year the school organises Christmas Carols and today was the day! We were all looking forward seeing each year level perform their Christmas song. Unfortunately, due to bad weather the Christmas Carols event was cancelled. Hopefully we'll have better weather at next year's Carols... ☺

My Birthday week(end)

Last weekend was my birthday weekend.
Happy 44th!

We had lots on with a kids party and political voting on my actual birthday, so we only celebrated on a very small scale. It still felt like my birthday even though we didn't have a big celebration.

Birthday avocado toast brought to me by my hubby!

Birthday card from hubby and kids

My present was something I really needed - a new mobile phone with an awesome camera!

My present from my mum earlier in the week was a visit to the hairdresser for a total makeover!

Here we are out and about at Sizzler, celebrating my birthday early

So, going back to my actual birthday... Got a bit side tracked there with the hairdresser and lunch at Sizzler. My birthday cake was a sticky and gooey chocolate cake with cream and cashew nuts on top - a Swedish speciality and always a treat!

My birthday week(end) continued on Sunday the 26th.

I invited my Uncle (my mum's younger brother) and his wife, my in-laws and my Swedish BFF Petra and her two kids over to share lots of cake with my family and I. I had made three Swedish cakes - a green Princess Cake with scrumptious marzipan, a Tosca Cake with almond topping and finally a Meringue  Cake with cream and berries. It was a total feast!

Gift Card, Birthday Card

...and lots of chocolates from my BFF.

Birthday gifts from the in-laws,

A tin sign of Marilyn Monroe
and a collection of old country magazines.

After my birthday celebration, mum took us out for dinner.

I had a great birthday celebration which lasted from Wednesday with a visit at the hairdresser and a lunch at Sizzler... Saturday with present and cake, to Sunday with family and friends over for cake and at the end of the night, a dinner out with my mum, hubby and kids. Can't wait for my 45th... ☺
